Title Monolithic carved basalt marble Caryatid figure of an ancient Egyptian Pharaoh Life size

Dimensions

Width 51cm

Height 153cm

Depth 38cm

Description

Solid carved stone black basalt or marble sculptured figure carved from a single monolithic block.

This rare statue of an ancient Egyptian nobleman as a Visier of Paraoh  and is life size for the period with very well carved proportions.

Extremely heavy as its carved from one solid block of stone and weighs in excess of 300 kg.

The arms are carved from the same single block and the support stone near the wrists is still in place, clearly this is a copy of a period ancient sculpture as this was traditional for most stone sculptures prior to freight and delivery  to prevent breakages in transit and would have been chissel finished on site once delivered.

Just as it may have been excavated in the same condition, perhaps from a shipwreck sunk at sea, it makes perfect sense that these connecting points are still attached and that this particular carved replica is true to the ancient archaeological original in every aspect.

Title Solid cast gold leaf gilt bust of an Art Nouveau girl entitled MEDITATION , signed and numbered to back

Description

A very heavy cast statue bust of a beautiful Art Nouveau girl.  With a flower in her long trailing hair , she has the countenance of a muse. Scrolling writing across the pedestal entitled MEDITATION, this statue is extremely heavy for its size so possibly cast in stone but with the weight of iron.

Well finished in gold leaf with hand applied patina, she is signed to the back  possibly by Gross who worked for the GoldScheider company as sculptor. There is also a two number inscription with a germanic 7 and the number 9 . The Art Nouveau period would date from 1890-1910 so it is probably a design or pattern number rather than a year date.
