terminating scroll feet. A original white marble top is very
versatile. Polished right round so it can also stand in the middle of a room as lamp tables or as a pedestal for a statues . The doors open left and right so these are matched as a pair.
The marble is original to each bedside cabinet and bears the marks of use in a well kept houshold.

In the Biedermeier style this cabinet is most probably or French origin of the reign of Charles X due to cabinet making techniques of the period.
Hugarian Ashwood is used sparingly in Biedermeier furniture as it is so rare to obtain quality grain and this piece displays that quality very well.

XVI style armoire with original folding mechanism that hides a guest bed.
This ingenius design allows for a
full matress is W116 cm Hx18cm height plus an additional up to 37 cm in length
if required to add to the original matress length os 186cm.
The single fold down door opens
with a central lock, is hinged at the bottom and folds open. The two iron front
legs fold out and down and are firmly secured with the original locking pin. the
matress is fixed to the door, ( which is not heavy ) and can be pushed back into
the cabinet along its original steel rails.
There are three heavy duty canvas
belt straps that hold a second matress or bedding into place whilst folding
away. Traditional peg jointed back panel , hand stitched springs to wooden
frame. Marquetry inlaid with fruitwood and raised on brass capped taper
legs.
The front of the door has brass
wire grills and original folded silk backing.

A similar table was offered at
Dorotheum Salzburg in 2002 with an estimate of 900-1200 Euro estimate and
described as late Biedermeier. This is due to the fact that the 19th century allowed the publication and distribution abroad of English furniture design sketch books and line drawings.
Since the Napoleonic wars, Europeans were looking for a new leaders in furniture design, other than France, hence the success of English style became the flavour of the century prior to Historicism.
