Description

A lovely solid walnut  early 19th century lamp table with a single drawer fitted below the apron.

It is most unusual to see the knotty walnut used in the solid as a table top- so luxurious. The fabulous grain is usually reserved for veneers especially as the timber around the knot shinks and warps unpredictably due to the nature of the timber dgrowth.

A lovely original patina and golden lustre waxed finish.

Superb quality and finish with solid turned mahogany taper column support on tripod platform raised on giltwood corinthian scroll cared feet..

The faux hand painted Jacaranda / Brazilian rosewood finish is traditional for late Georgian pieces as the timber was extremely hard to find and very  very expensive.  In fact good Faux painted finished antique examples sometimes way outsold the real thing in value and taste as it preserved the rainforest trees at that time and showed the artists real tallent. Description

Antique French provincial carved oak refectory table with ingenious storage below top circa 1820.

The ornate oak quarter veneered top with oak crossbanding usually lifts off the base completely but has recently been attached with hinges  to back for practicality.

The original lid top is usually lost to the rigours of kitchen work and this 19th century top matches nicely to the earlier oak base. It also has the bonus of a generous overhang allow for lots of leg room each side.

When raised it reveals a lovely coopered compartment. The barrel shaped interior was originally used as a dough or grain bin but can be used for lots of other storage.

Raised on turned column legs with "H" stretcher all with traditional 18th century pegged construction. The height of these antique kitchen tables  is usually  too low for modern usage but this example  has been raised on later turned feet to 77cm overall. Title  Antique Roman marble and semi precious stone mosaic table on wrought iron 1940's base

Description

Antique Roman marble and semi precious stone mosaic table on wrought iron 1940's base.

The superb quality stone pieces of this Roman design  mosaic floor with onyx and rouge marble sections with alternate coloured leaf stone highlights.  It is difficult to date or authenticate this Roman mosaic as it has been set into a 1940's wrought iron table base so far removed from its presumed archaeological origin. As with all antiquities that have lost their provenance, the authenticity can be disputed. However these stone mosaics serve a very decorative purpose as a table top.

Wrought iron table base with curled legs echoing the mosaic design.

Title Fine giltwood Swedish antique console table Museum quality

Dimensions

Height 81 cm

Width 105 cm

Depth 41 cm

Description
Impossible to find, this rare and totally original console table comes from Stockholm and is entirely hand carved. The monopodia feet with acanthus scrollwork and border rest on an original black painted stepped base. The marble slab, cararra of course, is hand carved . the back edge of the marble is much thicker than the front but this is hidden by the external framework. The reason for this difference in thickness is a counter balance effect so the console is weighted to the back and won't tip forward.

Value point: Original gilding to all carving, in untouched condition. Superb piece of Empire Karl Johan furniture. This quality and originality should be in a museum…perhaps Nordiska Museet ?
