A late Victorian small writing desk with five drawers in solid pollard oak. The solid oak heavy wooden top with moulding surround. Each solid oak drawer with lovely polished brass Georgian handles and dovetails joints. The top right hand drawer with working lock and key. The whole supported by well turned solid cedar legs raised on brass cup castors. Late Victorian origin Australian colonial circa 1880.

An elegant late 18th century oak secretaire desk on chest in the English Georgian manner. The upper compartment with two fielded doors below a carved dentil molding. These doors open with their original lock and key to reveil a fitted shelf and three internal drawers. Below this is a fall front writing slope that opens with lock and key to reveil a fitted compartment with 8 drawers and three pigeon holes. The desk height is standard 76cm for modern use and is 110cm wide and opens to a 53cm depth.

Below this desk are a further three full width drawers, all with solid brass  handles, locks and escutcheons. The cabinet still retains its original wrought iron carry handles on each side. A lovely duck egg blue painted finish and with gold leaf gilt edging completes this wonderful practical piece of furniture.

Description

A very impressive ebonised and Boulle inlaid writing desk in the French Louis XIV manner. Superbly inlaid in brass with ornate design and ormolu mounted in the manner of master cabinet maker to King Louis XIV , Andre Charles Boulle 1642-1732.  This maginificent three drawer example is a 20th century replica of an original early 1700's desk, no doubt still standing in the Palace of Versailles . Two ornate drawers in solid timber and shaped fronts flank the central drawer complete with lock and key and all drawers have heavy ornate Rococo handles. Superbly finished rights round it can stand with pride in the middle of any spacious room.

An original early 20th century Swedish satin birch cylinder top desk. The cylinder rolls back into the cabinet and a writing surface slides out to extend the desktop . A green leatherette surface is very practical. The interior is fitted with 14 drawers flanking a marquetry inlaid centre panel door, complet with lock and key.

There are four graduated size drawers below the writing surface and all with working locks and key.

The writing surface is 77cm high, 39 cm deep and 89cm wide. Two keys are supplied and also features original bakalite handles and keyhole escutcheons.

Description

An antique Victorian twin pedestal writing desk in solid mahogany and cedar .

The dark green leather top with gold gilt tooled design.  Below this from left to right are three drawers with turned knobs brass locks and a key .  This section of the desk lifts off in the traditional constructed manner and rests on two separate pedestal sections, each with three graduated sized drawers . These rest on plinth bases raised on elegant turned mahogany bun feet.

In excellent condition with french polished finish and only minor signs of "experience", this is a superbly made piece of English 19th century furniture that can stand in the centre of a room as it is polished all round, a value point as most desks were made to sit aginst a wall. Good modern proportions that are unusual for an antique desk with lots of legroom for the more prosperous executive.

French Louis XV style Bonheur du Jour or bureau desk with fine gilt ormolu mounts and veneers in king wood, satinwood and pallisander rosewood. The original cardinal rouge tooled gilt embossed leather top should speak volumes !

Although in the French Rococo style this goregous desk is more likely made in England in the mid 19th century and is of superb quality.

The interior is fitted with three drawers inlaid with rosewood on biredseye maple and with turned ivory knobs. The internal shelf is removable and again edged in rosewood .

Wonderful antique Karl Johan period Swedish satin birch escritoire secretaire or fall front desk in superb condition circa 1820-1830. Beautifully fitted with internal drawers and central door. The fall front is counter balanced and has an invisible internal steel hinge. Complete with all locks and keys , it very hard to find such a beautiful piece of Empire or Biedermeier furniture in such excellent condition. All locks work smoothly. There is even a cubby hole for your laptop or tablet in the central open compartment. This internal compartment measures for depth 40 cm width 39.5 cm and height 7.5 cm.

Flanked by well turned and carved columns and with nicely detailed top edge. Dates from the first quarter of the 19th century and is very compatible with Biedermeier, Art Deco , Empire or Regency interiors. Superb Satin Birch figuring.

A gorgeous antique 18th century Cylindre top desk in the sheraton manner. This beautifully made piece of georgian made furniture has two lower drawers above a pull out writing surface that opens the cylindre top, revealing a fitted interior with five drawers.

The superb inlay with fruitwood and boxwoods and the butterfly crest centre is carried forward in the lower drawer escutcheons.

All locks work and are with keys.

The lower taper legs were originally demountable so that they would fit into the drawers when the desk was used abord a sailing ship. Note the anchor emblems to the handles.

A Colonial Australian Cedar writing desk of twin pedestal form the two flights of graduated size drawers with turned wooden knobs and fitted with later brass locks and escutcheons . The pedestals are joined with a "harbour bridge arch" to both front and back. Nicely polished all round so it can stand in the centre of a room. It is most unusual to see a desk of this quality made entirely of Australian cedar, including the drawer backs and bottom, which of course feature hand cut dovetail joints. Each pedestal has been raised on later hidden castors under the pedestal, for ease of moving and to modern 76cm height.  Nice original patina to the surface shows the love and care of a bygone era. Antique Empire Biedermeier twin pedestal  desk with flame mahogany panels and top. The top with flame mahogany  and rounded corners and gilt tooled leather insert and surrouded by a mahogany gallery to three sides.

Each drawer and door with solid bronze ormolu escutcheons . Traditional minimalism style using steel keys to open and close. the right hand side pedestal with three fitted drawers securely locked away when not in use. Each drawer having gilt bronze ring pull handles.  Free standing this piece has later back panels in mahogany to allow centre of room use.

Superb quality twin pedestal early 20th century desk from Denmark. The main body is made of stained rosewood oak and with teak top. Three large drawers below the well polished writing surface  with brass handles and original brass locks, working and with key.

Below this are the pedestals, the writer's side has doors that enclose internal oak drawers, the other side or front of the desk with cleverly designed and spaced integrated bookcase shelves.

All drawers and runners operate smoothly and locks have been serviced. One key is supplied.

The three drawer top lifts off the pedestals for easy moving.

Description

A Colonial Australian Cedar writing desk of twin pedestal form the two flights of graduated size drawers with turned wooden knobs and fitted with later brass locks and escutcheons . The pedestals are joined with a "harbour bridge arch" to both front and back. Nicely polished all round so it can stand in the centre of a room. It is most unusual to see a desk of this quality made entirely of Australian cedar, including the drawer backs and bottom, which of course feature hand cut dovetail joints. Each pedestal has been raised on later hidden castors under the pedestal, for ease of moving and to modern 76cm height.  Nice original patina to the surface shows the love and care of a bygone era. All drawers open smooth as silk .

The writing surface pulls out from the desk to expand the writing surface. the height of the desk top is 72 cm from the floor and the desk top dimensions are length 70cm wide and 40 cm deep.

  Fruitwood marquetry applied to the desk cylindre with circular cartouche of floral design.

Description

Good blonde wood regency style PERIOD BIEDERMEIER sofa table or writing table with shaped frieze and fitted single drawer. This piece is meant to be in the centre of a room as it is finished all round. The shaped drawer front with cross banded ebony veneer and cherrywood chevron influenced from the French Empire or Directoire manner. Raised on elegant shaped and ebonised lyre supports and sabre legs. A good sturdy piece of furniture. The table top has a drop leaf to each side measuring 20 cm in width so with both raised it adds another 40 cm to the width of the desk / table top. Original steel hinges are hidden under the shaped moulding edge as are the pull out supports.

Original from Northern European, possibly Danish and would date to around 1820-1825. The drop leaves have minor repairs to one corner at some time, but has been done very well. Please see all images below for details.
