Description

A double door Biedermeier wardrobe or linen press. Each door with two separate panels in walnut. the double Chapeau de Gendarme top hints to the French Empire origin . Carved pilasters to each corner and ornate brass escutcheon with working lock and key.

The interior with four shelves with a depth of 38 cm . Easily converted to hanging space if required.

Good original patina and finish.

A well proportioned Solid French oak armoire in the Louis XVI manner with heavy central mirrored door featuring the original silvered crystal mirror plate. ( value point)

Traditional construction with well carved details to fluting and colums sides. the door opens with a brass key turning a spring loaded lock . A steel rail inside for hanging cloths and fitted knotched shelf supports if required.

It is presumbed that the back of the cabinet interior may have been mirrored too as it now has an ornamental paper finish.

Description

A north German flame mahogany Biedermeier Schrank or armoire wardrobe. Pieces such as these were often made in pairs, one being afall front desk with drawers the other matching in appearance but having a false front that is actually a door, such as this piece. The beautifully matched vertical veneers are in superb condition. The wardrobe door opens to reveal shelving but could also be used as hanging space. Internal dimensions are W101 cm D 42 cm, so deep enough for hanging.

above this is an amazing double door convex shaped hat compartment. the same ornate brass key opend both locks top and bottom. Beautiful scrollwork applied to the top is typical of the northern German  Late Empire early Biedermeier style.

A antique French Louis XV style walnut armoire with three drawers and hanging space within.

Finished in figurative quarter veneered panels to three doors, this late 19th century wardrobe is constructed in the usual French manner which allows it to be dissassembled  "flat pack" style to enable it to me moved up and down those narrow 18th century staircases in Paris.

 

The interior is all hanging space with 55cm depth for each compartment and a combined rod length of 160cm over both compartments, so very generous for even the most fashionable coats.

The backing timbers have been replaced and there are two original keys with the original brass locks, all working well.

A rare antique Tasmanian Victorian era wardrobe made of solid Huon Pine. Unusual in that all visible parts are in the solid, not veneered timber. Huon pine is a very slow growing tree with some examples aging more than 2000 years old. A highly figurative burl is very highly desirable and this wardrobe has plently of it. Huon pine was also favoured for its natural insect resistance and was much in demand for quality ship building.

Other original features of thios armoire are the twin bevel edged mirror doors, with original brass handles and locks. A full length blanket drawer is neatly fitted below, again with original brass handles.

Description

SUPERB quality antique rare French corner wardrobe , armoire or biblioteque bookcase.

The cabinet consists of traditionally made 19th century cabinetry methods. This fine antique furniture piece may be disassembled into flat sections for easy transport up and down stairs. Internal bolts hold the sides together to the base and top , with internal divisions , backing boards and adjustable shelves to the end wire door compartments. The central compartment is full height and may be used for shelving or for hanging.

This armoire could easily be converted into a spectacular display China cabinet by replacing the wire mesh and/or side panels with glass and having the silver (mirror backing) removed from the hand ground crystal glass in the central door. Imagine the trophies you could display inside! Each of the three doors is fitted with top and bottom pinion hinges for efficiency in design and location.

Beautifully hand carved wreaths and garlands with lattice work carved solid door panels, ormolu escutcheons and original brass keys and locks all complete this rare piece of European antique furniture.

Early colonial Australian full cedar wardrobe with hanging space and fitted drawers. Lovely carved Victorian carved corbels to doors and a well molded top pelmet. full cedar throughout and in excellent original condition for its age.

The depth for hanging is just perfect for modern clothing, and there is a full width rail, as well as the original turned timber clothes hooks inside.

The top pelmet unscrews as does the foot pedestal. Two doors open with Regency brass handles and lock and key.
