Rare set of six Regency style solid mahogany dining chairs. The shaped klismos style backrest with reeded carving. Backsplat with carved circular motifs flanking a brazilian rosewood central panel with inlaid brass anthenium design in the neoclassical manner. 

The seats are hand stitched edge with horsehair support under a period Regency silk upholstered seat and raised on elegant sabre front and rear legs.  Please note that one armchair has a worn fabric to seat but all the frames are solid and in excellent polished condition without any breaks or repairs. The set comprises of four standard chairs and two gorgeous armchairs.

Elegant solid oak provincial chair possibly English Georgian or even Gustavian Sweden,  where this traditional style is still popular.

Curved top rail is peg jointed  to the shaped back stile . The back splat is also curved in the same manner. The tapering legs joined by stretchers.

Good original oak patina is nicely polished. The two piece pine seat may be a later replacement but has had lots of wear and carries a good patina finish.

These chairs usually had a stuffed squab cushion tied on to the back stiles for comfort and easy use.

Description

Rare set of six antique solid Brazilian rosewood dining chairs made during the late Regency or William IV  period. The chairs are in excellent condition and stand very solid and stable. Being rosewood the chairs are quite weighty. The timber comes from the Brazilian forests and was very rare, especially in the 19th century and it is a hardwood. The tree itself smells a fragrant rose flower when cut and hence the name "rosewood". The fabric is in very good condition with no tears and no pulled threads. The chairs are of typical design of the period offering drop in seating. The chair backs are superbly carved all finish is original including a BADA stamp of authenticity.

Superb quality like this is very hard to find. The seat size is very generous, indicating a lordly or prosperous origin with a seat size of : depth 45cm and seat height of 49 cm for modern dining requirements. Upholstered in horse hair woven fabric.

A rare set of six 18th century original country chairs , possibly Swedish Gustavian 1790's.

The suite consists of four matching and two similar chairs, all of the same age and very similar design.  One has been slightly stained but would bleach back well .

Wooden seats are ideal for squab cushions for comfort and easy of cleaning/ changing the fabric in keeping with the season. All chair frames are traditional provincial manufacture with pegged pine nails.

It is traditional to keep genuine 18th century country pine furniture in the unpolished state in Swedish interiors and these chairs are offered as is.

Pair of English Regency style classic Ancient Greek Klismos chairs in painted faux rosewood finish. Superbly copied true to the originals with out swept sabre front and rear legs ans a superbly shaped ergonomic tub shaped backrest that supports the upper lumber region. These types of English Georgian chairs are extremely rare to find and these may have been made to match an original pair. This pair have brushed suede leather seats and are made of mahogany in the traditional manner and are all hand painted.

The patina on this chair is absolutely wonderful, and complimented by the pegged construction and natural loving wear and polish, its a very tactile chair for any home, gallery or museum.

Rarely does a chair of this calibre come onto the market in such good condition. Barossa valley germanic immigrants sometimes were able to bring a loved piece with them , or at the least made one exactly like they had back in the old country.

The sturdy walnut frames with beautifully matched figurative veneers with simple pack splat, also n figured walnut.

The unusual neoclssical curvature to the back rests dates these chairs specifically to the first Biedermeier period, 1815-1830. The elegant stright legs with a very high stretcher helps to reinforce the frame and give sturdiness to the chair, without hindering the feet.

The chairs have been upholstered in the early 20th century with coil springs giving them a seat height of 50 cm from floor.

The polished and sturdy mahogany frames carved and mounted with mercurial gilt ormolu bronze mounts and raised on gilt bronze lion paw feet.

The early ard deco upholstery is still in good condition and or a jade colour , could easily be recovered with little fuss to suit , perhaps a bold stripe fabric ??

Rare set of four antique Australian full cedar dining chairs dating from the first half of the 19th century. The stylish shaped cedar bar back in the Regency manner with carved centre back splat . The solid cedar seats resting on turned Georgian Regency front legs and sabre shaped back legs. Original patina with minor wear consistent with being well cared for in a loving home. The seat height is 43 cm and was traditionally made more comfortable with a loose tie on squab cushion , available at most fabric stores. Frames are all nice and tight so no wobbles or breaks except for the usual shrinkage across the grain in the seats , Square form taper iron nails indicate the origin to be around the 1830’s just like Werrington House ( 1832) near Sydney .

Description

A pair of Scandinavian beauties with well shaped legs and upholstered seat.

Although these chairs look like a pair, they are slightly individual, one with a inlaid Masur Birch back panel , the other with string inlay in birch and ebony. the shaped armrests supported on turned urn supports and raised on taper legs.

Both are fruitwood with inlaid curved front rail panels and identical upholstered velvel drop in sprung seats. Well polished and very sturdy, they have been taken apart and reglued using traditional methods, so no wobbles or loosness in the frames.

Swedish Empire ( English Regency era) armchairs to grace any Stockholm interior or French Empire, Biedermeier setting.

Height of seat off floor is 45 cm

The seat rail is stamped by master cabinet maker in Stockholm. After the Stockholm Chairmakers Guild was wound up in 1846, the practice of stamping chairs ended.

A very good pair of antique cast iron chairs. These were designed by the famous Biedermeier period architect, Karl F. Schinkel who designed the most significat 19th cenutry buildings in Berlin, that still stand today.

These armchairs are adorned with antheniums, rams heads and raised on roman hoofen feet.

The seats and back are constructed of close spaced steel rods giving wonderful storng support.

The matt black enamel finish prevents any rust and there is no sign of any. These superb armchairs will not blow over in the wind as they are substantially heavy being made of solid iron.

The drop in seat lifts out of the frame..see last picture, and can easily be covered in your favourite fabric with a minimum of fuss. Seat height from floor is 48 cm.

Superb quality and beautifully shaped chair, with a small restoration ( old) to front left hand corner and top of that leg, but the chair is very sturdy and very comfortable . Chairs of this quality are highly sought after for galleries and period interiors. This one would date to around 1815.
