Superb quality and of impressive proportions this large bookcase or display cabinet is entirely made of solid walnut. The interior with hand painted azure blue contrasts nicely with the pale walnut exterior.

The proportions and material in solid walnut would indicate this to have been made for a highly influencial household possibly in Rome or Milan.

Made in the early 1800's in the traditional 16th century baroque manner this grand cabinet would suit any notable villa or chateau.

The cabinet dismantles into 5 sections for easier transport up those 17th century stone staircases.

Description

Rare English Regency double pedestal sideboard in original condition with carved acanthus Thomas Hope scroll back.

Beautiful undisturbed patina to the well figured flame mahogany top  over three hidden drawers fitted to the apron. This heavy top section easily lifts off the base for easy transport.

It sits on two pedestal cabinets each with a Gothic style panel  doors with carved scroll ornaments and recessed panels.  The Left side has two internal sliding drawers.

The opening petween the pedestals is 79cm wide and 75cm high. it would lend itself well as a desk of considerable height at 93cm from ground.  ideal for a draftsman's chair.

Minor veneer blemishes to some corners consistent with age and use but the undisturbed and well cared for patina adds value and charm to this gorgeous piece of late Georgian period furniture.

Title   Rare late 17th/18th century solid oak baroque serving table with two drawers below massive oak top


Description

A gorgeous solid oak late 17th early 18th century Refectory table of the baroque period. The solid turned legs made from a massive single piece of oak and in bulbous shape with original stretcher joints. A lovely well work patina to these stretchers shows its age well.

An ornamental apron supports a pair of later fitted oak drawers with cast bronze baroque escutcheons. The lift off top is made of three massive oak planks  to 50mm thickness and is in well polished condition.

Both drawers with brass locks and fully working key.

Lovely patina right round ensures this desk or table can stand in the centre of a room with pride and would compliment any early Georgian  or baronial interior .

This type of table is the original  example of furniture from which came the descriptive for a "Side Board" .

Beautiful  Swedish Karl Johan period Empire style tall 'silver' cabinet designed as a pedestal or pier cabinet. These elegant slim pieces of furniture were usually placed between tall windows and used as pedestals for candelabra or clocks.

A moulded pediment over two carved arch front panel doors. A drop front door below and two larger carved front doors below. All open with the original steel key to well working original spring loaded locks. Ornate bronze escutcheons and subtle gilt details to painted woodwork.

All doors are pegged in the traditional manner and retain their original iron hinges.

The interior painted in a vintage pale apricot colour for contrast.

The grooved carved details to the front door panels is a signature of Swedish 18th century Gustavian furniture. This is an 18th century period that is named after Sweden's King Gustav III, a contemporary to Georgian England and French King Louis XV and King Louis XVI era.

Description

Elegant Biedermeier simplicity at its finest.  This superb quality sideboard or dressing cabinet with beautiful lustrous blonde patina of a well treasured antique.

 

A rare early single drawer cherrywood inlay on walnut dressing cabinet  with two lower doors and interior in polished fruitwood.

This cabinet is completely original and still retains its original working locks and key.

Two brass shield shaped escutcheons are inlaid into the highly figurative walnut.

The top drawer pulls open with the key in the usual manner and is fitted with pull out tilt back adjustable cravat tying mirror. It closes with a gilt bronze handle and is flanked by partitioned compartments ideal for watches jewellery or neck ties.

Its very rare to fine such a loevely and practical piece of Biedermeier furniture in its original condition.

The drawer opens smoothly and door locks etc all work well.

The solid architectural carved oak column legs with intricate design with plinth moulded feet and arched corners. A large full width drawer with brass handles steel lock and working key. An antique additional narrow 11cm high moulding with additional shallow drawer with matching handles has been insterted under the massive pollard oak top.

A separate solid oak plate rack has been added to the top and probably dates from the Victorian era.  the backing boards are massive in width in keeping to the early 18th century original design.

Both plate rack front and original oak drawer front have casetted mouldings with turned bobbin ornaments and a good farmhouse walnut colour that only comes with age and care.

The 18th century cabinet with large panel top with polished finish. The surrounding wood pelmet moulding  with hand painted details. A single door with monogram painted fielded panel dated 1793.

The cabinet hand painted in traditional forest green and rouge highlights. 

The single door opens with a steel key to double throw steel lock.

 

This spice cabinet  would have been high enough for little hands not to be able to reach the contents. It has been raised on carved four legged base in the baroque manner.

The shaped serpentine front drawers below the drop front writing surface with brass Chippendale handles and escutcheons.

Two arch top carved panel doors with intricate moldings above the desk section with canted corners and carved oak pediment top.

The writing surface is 85 cm off the ground with generous legroom clearance of 82cm below top.. allowing for armchair space!

When opened the writing surface measures W 110cm. There is a central recess for handy lap top storage and in tradition there is a sliding compartment inside the writing surface...but this desk has a secret! The shallow height drawer below the desk top surface is actually not a drawer. It hides a secret compartment above the three large serpentine lower drawers.  All drawers open smoothly and have been well serviced. Three original keys for the locks included.

Fabulous original patina finish makes this a very rare piece.

Title Biedermeier flame mahogany single door Armoire  



Description

A northern European flame mahogany Biedermeier Schrank or armoire wardrobe. Pieces such as these were often made in pairs, one being afall front desk with drawers the other matching in appearance but having a false front that is actually a door, such as this piece. The beautifully matched vertical veneers are in superb condition. The wardrobe door opens to reveal shelving but could also be used as hanging space. Internal dimensions are H 151cm W101 cm D 42 cm so deep enough for hanging.

A hat box cabinet above this is an amazing double door convex shaped hat compartment. the same ornate brass key opend both locks top and bottom. Beautiful scrollwork applied to the top is typical of the northern  European lLate Empire early Biedermeier style.

Title   Nordic Art Deco sideboard bookcase with carved mythological mask heads

Description

An antique Nordic Art Nouveau Deco style sideboard or bookcase with Brazilian rosewood and burl alder veneers. Consisting or a solid set of three architectural doors opening with keys. When opened these reveal adjustable internal shelves and three shallow top drawers inside. The fluted pediments to the doors hide the keyholes well. A fielded panel of rare Alder root veneer is surrounded by Brazilian rosewood contrast and ashwood mouldings.

At the base of the doors are three individually carved mask heads of Nordic mythiological design surrounded by new wheat sheaf growth in stylised scroll form flanking each of the carved mythological faces.

 

Quality such as this is very hard to find and is usually made by noted cabient makers such as Nordiska Kompaniet .

Title  Solid elm 18th century secretaire bureau desk with 2 door bookcase top  fitted interior circa 1780

Description

A well proportioned late 18th century provincial French Louis XVI bureau secretaire desk in well figured solid elm with exquisite fitted interior.

The traditional pierced fretwork top with parcel gilt dentilled mouldings. Two solid elm panel doors open to the bookcase top and are flanked by carved elm 1/4 columns to corners. Door with original working lock and key.

A slope top desk opens to reveal 10 original drawers with brass handles and three compartments. An apperture has been installed in the back of one pigeon hole to allow for modrn power cords for a laptop etc.

Four graduated sized drawers are fitted below with flanking matched corner columns.

Title   Antique Gothic oak carved sideboard carved medieval carving

Description

An antique carved oak Gothic style Medieval sideboard. The top with carved ornate border resting on a superbly carved coffer or cassone base. The cabinet of architectural form with knights in full armour as corner pilasters and with carved oak panels.

Each  of the three doors  carved with middle ages themes open on hinged brass fittings and brass locks with working key. 

The two door panels open to shelved spaces flanking the centre panel  hinged to the bottom reveals two oak drawers with brass ring pull handles.

One panel door has a year date carved  ANNO 1282 .
