Title  Biedermeier walnut dressing cabinet fine string inlay fitted interior with tilt adjustable mirror circa 1825



Description

Siymplicity at its finest, this superb quality dressing cabinet with beautiful lustrous patina of a well cared for antique.

 

A rare early single drawer cherrywood inlaid on walnut dressing cabinet  with two lower doors and interior in polished fruitwood.

This cabinet is completely original and still retains its original working locks and key.

Two brass shield shaped escutcheons are inlaid into the highly figurative walnut.

The top drawer pulls open with the key in the usual manner and is fitted with pull out tilt back adjustable cravat tying mirror. It closes with a gilt bronze handle and is flanked by partitioned compartments ideal for watches jewellery or neck ties.

Its very rare to fine such a loevely and practical piece of Biedermeier furniture in its original condition.

The drawer opens smoothly and door locks etc all work well.

Antique early 18th century Georgian Welsh dresser sideboard with original carved and polished patina.

The solid architectural carved oak column legs with intricate design with plinth moulded feet and arched corners. A large full width drawer with brass handles steel lock and working key. An antique additional narrow 11cm high moulding with additional shallow drawer with matching handles has been insterted under the massive pollard oak top.

A separate solid oak plate rack has been added to the top and probably dates from the Victorian era.  the backing boards are massive in width in keeping to the early 18th century original design.

Both plate rack front and original oak drawer front have casetted mouldings with turned bobbin ornaments and a good farmhouse walnut colour that only comes with age and care.

 

Goregous original antique polished finish.

Description

A well proportioned late 18th century provincial French Louis XVI bureau secretaire desk in well figured solid elm with exquisite fitted interior.

The traditional pierced fretwork top with parcel gilt dentilled mouldings. Two solid elm panel doors open to the bookcase top and are flanked by carved elm 1/4 columns to corners. Door with original working lock and key.

A slope top desk opens to reveal 10 original drawers with brass handles and three compartments. An apperture has been installed in the back of one pigeon hole to allow for modrn power cords for a laptop etc.

Four graduated sized drawers are fitted below with flanking matched corner columns.

 

The writing surface is 75 cm off the ground with generous legroom clearnace of 73cm below top.

When opened the writing surface measures D55cm x W 105 cm.

The whole cabinet raised on parcel gilt carved oak feet.

A well proportioned late Empire provincial Gustavian secretaire bureau desk in hand painted oak with exquisite fitted inlaid elm interior.

The shaped empire moustache top with gold leaf detail with convex central door below with ornate bronze ormolu sculpture. This is flanked by two convex door compartments and a fitted drawer drawers below.

The slope top opens to reveal an ebonised piano black interior fitted with 11 drawers and central inlaid door compartment.

Below the drop front writing surface are four gradutated sized drawers with gilt bronze Gustavian handles and matching escutcheons.

 

The Piano black writing surface is 72 cm off the ground with generous legroom clearnace of 70cm below top. When opened the writing surface measures D59cm x W 104 cm.

Elegant hand painted finish with subtle greys, parcel gold leaf and verdigris bronze painted mouldings.

A well proportioned late provincial oak baroque 1730's secretaire desk in well figured oak with exquisite fitted interior.

The shaped serpentine front drawers below the drop front writing surface with brass Chippendale handles and escutcheons.

Two arch top carved panel doors with intricate moldings above the desk section with canted corners and carved oak pediment top.

The writing surface is 85 cm off the ground with generous legroom clearance of 82cm below top.. allowing for armchair space!

When opened the writing surface measures W 110cm. There is a central recess for handy lap top storage and in tradition there is a sliding compartment inside the writing surface...but this desk has a secret! The shallow height drawer below the desk top surface is actually not a drawer. It hides a secret compartment above the three large serpentine lower drawers.  All drawers open smoothly and have been well serviced. Three original keys for the locks included.

Fabulous original patina finish makes this a very rare piece.

A dark patina finish over the original farmhouse painted original finish.  Usually made bespoke to celebrate a marriage, this one has the name Schaeffer and is dated 1800.

Pieces such as these were often made in pairs, one being afall front desk with drawers the other matching in appearance but having a false front that is actually a door, such as this piece. The beautifully matched vertical veneers are in superb condition. The wardrobe door opens to reveal shelving but could also be used as hanging space. Internal dimensions are H 151cm W101 cm D 42 cm so deep enough for hanging.

A hat box cabinet above this is an amazing double door convex shaped hat compartment. the same ornate brass key opend both locks top and bottom. Beautiful scrollwork applied to the top is typical of the northern  European lLate Empire early Biedermeier style.

Unusual Scottish baronial style solid oak sidebaord with carved top and carved double doors. The Of Georgian Trunk like shape but has always been a two door cabinet and retains original brass hinges, lock and includes a key. The double doors open to reveal a large internal space with removable internal shelf.

The top of the cabinet has a central careved panel with latin inscription on a stylized carved belt

"Fortis IN ARDUIS"  which translates as "Bravery ( strength) in difficult times"

Given the current times, this would be ideal in any British home.

below this are three wave frotn drawers all fitted with polished brass handles and escutcheons.

The drawer inners have been replaced some 100 years ago, possibly due to shrinkage, but these open and close beautifully smoothly.

A very well made Biedermeier revival cabinet or sideboard. The beautifully proportioned body with canted corners and ebony, rosewood and fruitwood marquetry inlay. Complete with ebony shield escutcheons and a secret drawer in the upper fieze panel.

The internal upper compartment measures D44 x W110 x H 51cm . The demi lune inlaid panel also features on the inside of the fall front door, with lead weight conter balanced hinges for support.

Below this is a pair of doors that open fully with further slide out shelving, perfect for the dining room silver cutlery and fine linen table cloths etc

The whole raised on ebonised bun feet. Good original polished surface and patina.

Superb quality craftsmanship blond two door cabinet known as a Skop in Scandinavia . built throughout northern europe right down to Belgium and across Germany, this beautiful example is made of walnut  with fruitwood marquetry and complete with bronze handles escutcheons and carry handles to the sides.

The impressive architectural molded top pediment with two shaped panel doors, opening  fully on pin hinges to reveal adjustable shelves and inner drawers. The upper cabinet resting on a four drawer base cabinet with brass handles and escutcheons and resting on Chippendale ogee shaped feet in the 18th century English style.

A gorgeous painted oak tabernacle cabinet in the baroque manner. A shaped dome front with cassetted single door with original escutcheon and brass key and iron hinges, opens to a painted cabinet interior.

Below this are four secret compartments that can only be accessed when the door is unlocked.

Raised on turned shaped legs with ornate cross stretcher.

The ornate peg jointed door with faux walnut painted finish features the year date of 1782 and the initials

 "NL s" which probably stands for Neilson.

Locks and key works well . The ingenious secret compartment is hard to find.

Title   Nordic Art Deco sideboard bookcase with carved mythological mask heads

Description

An antique Nordic Art Nouveau Deco style sideboard or bookcase with Brazilian rosewood and burl alder veneers. Consisting or a solid set of three architectural doors opening with keys. When opened these reveal adjustable internal shelves and three shallow top drawers inside. The fluted pediments to the doors hide the keyholes well. A fielded panel of rare Alder root veneer is surrounded by Brazilian rosewood contrast and ashwood mouldings.

At the base of the doors are three individually carved mask heads of Nordic mythiological design surrounded by new wheat sheaf growth in stylised scroll form flanking each of the carved mythological faces.

 

Quality such as this is very hard to find and is usually made by noted cabient makers such as Nordiska Kompaniet .

Title: Antique Murphy style French Armoire folding bed

Description

 

Pale walnut and fruitwood French provincial Louis XVI style armoire with original folding mechanism that hides a guest bed.

This ingenius design allows for a full matress is W116 cm Hx18cm height plus an additional up to 37 cm in length if required to add to the original matress length os 186cm.

The single fold down door opens with a central lock, is hinged at the bottom and folds open. The two iron front legs fold out and down and are firmly secured with the original locking pin. the matress is fixed to the door, ( which is not heavy ) and can be pushed back into the cabinet along its original steel rails.

There are three heavy duty canvas belt straps that hold a second matress or bedding into place whilst folding away. Traditional peg jointed back panel , hand stitched springs to wooden frame. Marquetry inlaid with fruitwood and raised on brass capped taper legs.

The front of the door has brass wire grills and original folded silk backing.

An elegant late 18th century oak secretaire desk on chest in the English Georgian manner. The upper compartment with two fielded doors below a carved dentil molding. These doors open with their original lock and key to reveil a fitted shelf and three internal drawers. Below this is a fall front writing slope that opens with lock and key to reveil a fitted compartment with 8 drawers and three pigeon holes. The desk height is standard 76cm for modern use and is 110cm wide and opens to a 53cm depth.

Below this desk are a further three full width drawers, all with solid brass  handles, locks and escutcheons. The cabinet still retains its original wrought iron carry handles on each side. A lovely duck egg blue painted finish and with gold leaf gilt edging completes this wonderful practical piece of furniture.

Description

Unusual French Provincial antique chestnut dresser base or sideboard in the Louis Philippe style and period. First half of the 19th century French. The solid top with mitre edges, moulding below and two fitted drawers. A central lock and escutcheon in place to be able to lock the drawers if required, but no key for this lock. The lower two solid timber doors have nicely engraved and chiseled long brass escutcheons original lock and key. All works smoothly. An internal shelve exists. Patina, overall a good light cherrywood colour but being chestnut or elm has a more figurative grain.

Original locking mechanism and a key. the top pellet with shaped and carved figurative Cherry veneers cross banded to match the vertical nature of this gorgeous piece. This has a lovely golden hue that you can only get with antique EUROPEAN cherrywood. Original turned carved escutcheon key holes to doors, this piece is very tight and does not have any looseness to the frame. a small piece of cherrywood inlaid to the bottom front left hand door and signs of ANCIENT woodworm , are all marks of authenticity and impossible to forge. The two door panels open to shelved spaces flanking the centre panel  hinged to the bottom reveals two oak drawers with brass ring pull handles.

One panel door has a year date carved  ANNO 1282 .
