Usually made for the newly married couple these spice cabinets were a wedding present and were designed to keep the highly prized spices and precious silverware well away from inquisitive young fingers. 

The cupboard would have been hung from a wall in pride of place. 

A single door opens with a steel key to original lock .

A single drawer below with metal knob.

Of note is that the fluted carved decoration to door and drawer fronts are of extraordinary precision, a tradeskill of Swedish craftsmanship entirely hand carved circa 1800..

 

An original wrought iron hanging hook is still attached to the back.

French Art Deco mahogany dressing table with original bevel edged mirror and rouge marble tops 1930.

The carved shaped mirror is suspended by two wing shaped brackets raised from two pedestals. Each is veneered in gorgeous flame mahogany. Left and right hand opening doors click open with (later) magnetic locks and Deco pull handles. The left has a removable shelf, the right hand side with four internal drawers and gilt handles.

The original thick crystal glass mirror with its hand ground edge with its original silver reflective backing (unlike modern aluminium backings) has a few blemishes ...but being around 90 years old  it shows its age with pride.

The whole raised on fluted apron and stepped tapering feet.

Good original finish and beautiful stone tops that scream French Elegance.

Description

Northern European Empire or Biedermeier tallboy chest with carved acanthus scroll corinthian columns. The facade with beautiful book matched flame mahogany front. The top drawer of full width over a pair of half columns flanking 5 more drawers. There is also a  full width drawer fitted to the plinth. All have brass escutcheons and working locks . Steel key supplied. In excellent original order ...a value point!

The very top with an unusual curvedfront raised platform top for that special statue candelabra or clock.

All drawers open very smoothly and all locks have been serviced and work well. The simplicity of design requires push and pull of the key to open and close the drawers in the traditional Empire manner.

Ther eis also a spoon rach for the silver spoons handed down from generation to generation. These tall cabinets usually held the finest of the houshold tableware.

The fitted drawer in the top frieze with shaped front. There is also a drawer fitted to the plinth. All have shaped brass escutcheons and working locks. 3 keys supplied. In excellent original order and raised on block plinth feet

Title   Empire period secretaire chest sideboard with ormolu and marble columns leather writing surface



Description

An antique Empire period secretaire chest or sideboard with ormolu and marble columns  flanking a mirror door.

The very top with three drawers with brass mouldings. Below this is a central mirrored door with surved sides and flanking carrara marble columns. three further drawers below  for writing instruments etc. A flip top extension with gilt tooled leather insert. Below this are three further drawers all opening with gilt bronze handles in the Russian Imperial manner.

Raised on elegant tapering legs with ormolu mounts .

 

Quality such as this is very hard to find and is usually made by noted cabient makers such as David Roentgen .

Such a practical piece of furniture in good condition. Working keys supplied.

Title   Provincial Biedermeier tallboy cabinet with rare carved bookfront double doors circa 1845

Description

An elegant 19th century tallboy cabinet on chest with gorgeous rare original painted finish.

The top with unusual carved double doors in the shape of an open book. The two doors with shield shaped escutcheons and working locks and a key. Once opened it reveals three inner drawers with a secret compartment. Four shaped drawers below all with working locks and shiled escutcheons open very smoothly . Raised on strudy solid bracket feet.

An unusual practical piece of furniture with very realistic faux birch hand painted wood finish on pine case work.

An antique late 17th early 18th century English Georgian wardrobe with original patina polish.

The cabinet with two panel doors each with steel key and working locks, opens onto a hanging space of H153 W126 D40cm . Below this space are two fitted panel front drawers.

It is quite rare to find such a gorgeous antique armoire or wardrobe  in original condition . The cabinet comes apart in two sections , with hanging space extending below the panels in the bottom section  until it reaches the oak floor above the bottom drawers.

Ornate brass escutcheons and  draw handles. Original waxed patina finish.

This mahogany cabinet has the original gilt bronze mounted columns , also in flame mahogany veneer and on solid oak interior. Two adjustable shelves are included. Superb quality Schinkel design Biedermeier period fall front desk. this beautiful piece of 1820 furniture is the ultimate in a Biedermeier desk. It is beautifully veneered in book matched pyramid Flame mahogany. Fitted drawers still retain most of the original ivory escutcheons and all original locks. keys supplied to match. The writing surface falls open, but has an internal counter balance weight and stops, so no need to pull out desk rests on either side!. Once open it reveals a flight of 10 drawers with solid ivory turned knobs, a central door and a secret drawer below. The top drawer is full width.

Central compartment measures W32 cm h28 cm D35 cm.

Desk surface is raised to standard 80 cm off ground.

Title Biedermeier flame mahogany single door Armoire  



Description

A northern European flame mahogany Biedermeier Schrank or armoire wardrobe. Pieces such as these were often made in pairs, one being afall front desk with drawers the other matching in appearance but having a false front that is actually a door, such as this piece. The beautifully matched vertical veneers are in superb condition. The wardrobe door opens to reveal shelving but could also be used as hanging space. Internal dimensions are H 151cm W101 cm D 42 cm so deep enough for hanging.

A hat box cabinet above this is an amazing double door convex shaped hat compartment. the same ornate brass key opend both locks top and bottom. Beautiful scrollwork applied to the top is typical of the northern  European lLate Empire early Biedermeier style.

Title   Nordic Art Deco sideboard bookcase with carved mythological mask heads

Description

An antique Nordic Art Nouveau Deco style sideboard or bookcase with Brazilian rosewood and burl alder veneers. Consisting or a solid set of three architectural doors opening with keys. When opened these reveal adjustable internal shelves and three shallow top drawers inside. The fluted pediments to the doors hide the keyholes well. A fielded panel of rare Alder root veneer is surrounded by Brazilian rosewood contrast and ashwood mouldings.

At the base of the doors are three individually carved mask heads of Nordic mythiological design surrounded by new wheat sheaf growth in stylised scroll form flanking each of the carved mythological faces.

 

Quality such as this is very hard to find and is usually made by noted cabient makers such as Nordiska Kompaniet .

Description

A well proportioned late 18th century provincial French Louis XVI bureau secretaire desk in well figured solid elm with exquisite fitted interior.

The traditional pierced fretwork top with parcel gilt dentilled mouldings. Two solid elm panel doors open to the bookcase top and are flanked by carved elm 1/4 columns to corners. Door with original working lock and key.

A slope top desk opens to reveal 10 original drawers with brass handles and three compartments. An apperture has been installed in the back of one pigeon hole to allow for modrn power cords for a laptop etc.

Four graduated sized drawers are fitted below with flanking matched corner columns.

Title   Antique Gothic oak carved sideboard carved medieval carving

An antique carved oak Gothic style Medieval sideboard. The top with carved ornate border resting on a superbly carved coffer or cassone base. The cabinet of architectural form with knights in full armour as corner pilasters and with carved oak panels.

Each  of the three doors  carved with middle ages themes open on hinged brass fittings and brass locks with working key. 

The two door panels open to shelved spaces flanking the centre panel  hinged to the bottom reveals two oak drawers with brass ring pull handles.

One panel door has a year date carved  ANNO 1282 .
