French antique set of 6 lyre back chairs with carved details in the Louis XVI manner signed stamped seat rail Chartier.
A similar chair is located in the Music salon in the Chateau de Bagatelle in Paris.
The well carved wooden chair frames with traditional pegged joint construction as used in the 18th century tradition. The four peg securing of the legs to the frame was traditional to George Jacob.
The frames are nice and firm and have a lovely pale french grey painted patina.
The seats in duck egg blue silk but unfortunately with minor water marks to fabric due to a faulty shipping container seal. All seats were reupholstered around 10 year sago and can be used as is or simply covered with loose tie back fabric.
Pierre Verlet in his book "Les Meubles Francais du XVIII siecle" French furniture notes Chartier was registered as an upholstery and furniture merchant in 1818 .
