The tall oak back with traditional Elizabethan panels ( hence the name Shakespeare chairs) and turned oak ornaments and with bow shaped armrests giving the seat a tub shape. Solid oak seats flare outward towards the front and raised on turned legs with stretcher joints. Superb craftsmanship of the Art and Crafts movement where the perfection of hand worked skill and design was supreme. Nice and tight joints with traditional oak pegged construction. Attributed to Liberty and Co London (1875-present). A pair of bespoke shaped cushions supplied. Good original french polished finish in shellac.

Original faun silk velvet upholstery of the Edwardian period. Each armchair bears the makers plaque Hampton and Sons Pall Mall East London. Established in 1830 Hampton took on his two sons and moved to 8 Pall Mall East London in 1869. The firm was taken over in 1903 by Gillows but retained the name because of the excellent quality of their work. Amongst their commisions, Hamptons furnished The Dorchester London, Mayfair Hotels and the ocean liners: Queen Elizabeth and Queen Mary.

Rare Pair antique Italian Renaissance baroque throne chairs in solid walnut signature branding mark Lombardy circa 1580.
These types of chairs are usually placed either side of a gorgeous baroque chest or in the hallway. The large scale of the chairs would indicate a northern Italian origin. The chairs would have sat high in an Abbey or Cloister and being in walnut not oak they would have been made the the executive clergy and most likely used with a peasant footrest. In original condition with good waxed patina the brand mark under the seat and an additional museum inventory label attached on each in a discreet corner. Good pegged joints and carved panels.

Swedish large antique Gustavian 18th century armchair fauteuil in the French Louis XVI manner of the period circa 1780. The well carved frame in beechwood with ornate details raised on turned and fluted neoclassical legs. Gustavian furniture, unlike some overblown French versions, are simplified neoclassical designs and this makes the overall appeal so much more human in scale. The craftsmanship of the timber construction is superb with pegged joints traditional to 18th century furniture. The beechwood frame has been ebonised to highlight the shape. Raised on elegant carved fluted taper legs. Recently upholstered in paisely floral velvet to compliment the wood patina of the beechwood frame. Nice and sturdy and comfortable.

A very rare pair of marquise armchairs bergere manner with upholstered sides. The Marquise is a wider seat chair for the more prosperous seating capacity. These examples are mid 19th century french and still retain their original water gilt carved finishes- a value point as it is real gold! All frames are nice and sturdy and could easily be upholstered in your favourite fabric. Spring seats for extra comfort. The low back was also traditional as the Marquise of noble rank sat closest to the King and in front of the fire and those standing behind of lesser nobility might benefit from some warmth.

The generous sized comfortable seat of height of 45cm and is made luxuriously comfortable with coil springs as support and are all hand stitched. Raised on sabre front legs with detailed acanthus carvings to the tops usually reserved for ormolu mounts. A very strudy and elegant chair with original finish and patina and upholstered in a vintage woven cotton fabric in duck egg blue. Upholstery in good original and finished with piped edges.

French antique set of 6 lyre back chairs with carved details in the Louis XVI manner signed stamped seat rail Chartier. A similar chair is located in the Music salon in the Chateau de Bagatelle in Paris. The well carved wooden chair frames with traditional pegged joint construction as used in the 18th century tradition. The four peg securing of the legs to the frame was traditional to George Jacob. The frames are nice and firm and have a lovely pale french grey painted patina. The seats in duck egg blue silk but unfortunately with minor water marks to fabric due to a faulty shipping container seal. All seats were reupholstered around 10 year sago and can be used as is or simply covered with loose tie back fabric. Pierre Verlet in his book "Les Meubles Francais du XVIII siecle" French furniture notes Chartier was registered as an upholstery and furniture merchant in 1818 . His business was located in 71 Rue Saint-Antoine , Paris, France

This chair is likely a 20th century bespoke made chair of a very heavy dense timber like honduras or cuban mahogany. The joints are superbly made with precision and are all pegged in the traditional french manner of the period 18th and early 19th century. Beautifully carved Empire leaf and wreath designs to top of chair back and seat rail. Fluted pillaster column back ending in sabre rear legs and tapering front legs terminating in lions paw feet. This chair is very solid and heavy and probably made to exactly match an original from 1805 by the Master Ebeniste George Jacob and will suit modern dining with a large wide seat upholstered with springs for extra comfort. Made from solid cherrywood, these rare chairs have original patina surface and have recently been upholstered in the traditional manner of the period. The ususual curved backs or lyre shape with carved knot back splat. Raised on elegant cherrywood cabriole legs to fron and sabre rear legs. The back legs and back rests strengthened in the original design with cherrywood cross grained inserts. Quite likely made by famous Biedermeier period company of the Danhauser factory in early 19th century Vienna. Similar examples exist in the MAK and the Hofmoebel Sammlung, a treasure trove of original Biedermeier antique furniture in Vienna, Austria. The recently reupholstered gorgeous jade green silk upholstery with subtle gold satin patterns. Upholstered right round so this impressive suite can stand with pride in the centre of any room and be viewed from all angles. Antique set of four walnut chairs of the early Biedermeier period. The elegant Empire gondola backs inspired by French examples and designed by noted Viennese designer Josef Danhauser 1805-1845. Solid walnut construction with shaped backs that scroll very elegantly and have a book matched walnut veneered top rail and back splat. The deceptively simple looking shape to the back curves gracefully but supports the back very well. The elevated chair leg stretcher only to the sides are typical of the ingenuity of Danhauser designs many of which are exhibited t in the Applied Arts Museum Vienna or MAK. Good sturdy construction with square front legs and original stretchers. The original patina polish in very good condition is a value point. Description Very rare antique pair Swedish Empire tub armchairs attributed to Ephraim Stahl Royal chairmaker in Stockholm early 1800's.
Ephraim Stahl was the most famous chair maker in Stockholm 1794-1820. He received a royal warrant from the King of Sweden in 1800 and made chairs for the Royal Palace of king Gustav III. Examples of his work are srtill located in the Nordiska Museet Stockholm as well as the royal Swedish households.
These gorgeous elegant tub bergere armchairs have a wonderful curved shape and are uniquely Swedish Gustavian. Usually refered to as bath tub shaped fauteuil, the gorgeous curved backs wrap around and supports the sitter. The carved lion head armrests with gently curving support to turned and carved front legs with traditional sabre legs at the back.
Nice and sturdy and with generous sized seats. Recently redecorated and reupholstered in the traditional manner with blue linen fabric.

Raised on sabre legs with shaped joints and stretchers.
Good french polished finish all round . Note an old repair to one back rest corner but all well done and sturdy.

Good original shellac patina finish. Solid blonde walnut construction nice and sturdy with only minor signs of wear consistent with age and character.
This type of antique window seat would have graced the formal salon to a fine home and are ideal as hallway seats or end of a bed bench. The elegant and light design would have been made to be placed in front of a long French window or in an alcove. The shallow depth of only 34 cm does not take up too much precious floor space great for hallway seating!.
This size makes them very versatile and is much sought after by designers. Recent upholstery in rich black textured fabric to contrast the blonde wood.

These chairs may have been made for a naval or navigation room hence the lighthouse backs. They are strong and sturdy and are raised in the neoclassical manner with taper front legs and sabre rear legs for extra sturdiness. The vintage upholstered seats are in woven horsehair fabric in keeping with the Empire aesthetic.

A pair of Scandinavian beauties with well shaped legs and upholstered seat. Although these chairs look like a pair, they are slightly individual, one with a inlaid Masur Birch back panel , the other with string inlay in birch and ebony. the shaped armrests supported on turned urn supports and raised on taper legs. Both are fruitwood with inlaid curved front rail panels and identical upholstered velvel drop in sprung seats. Well polished and very sturdy, they have been taken apart and reglued using traditional methods, so no wobbles or loosness in the frames. Swedish Empire ( English Regency era) armchairs to grace any Stockholm interior or French Empire, Biedermeier setting. Height of seat off floor is 45 cm The seat rail is stamped by master cabinet maker in Stockholm. After the Stockholm Chairmakers Guild was wound up in 1846, the practice of stamping chairs ended. Description A very rare Estonian , Baltic states, armchair in the Russian Empire style. the shaped flame mahogany back rest over a carved mahogany lure support and shaped crossbar. Scrolling armrest with winged dragon heads scrolling down to carved dragon tails. the drop in seat has been reupholstered in the 40's and sits within a cherrywood frame. Elegant sabre back legs and well cavred hooven front legs. this was a chair of exquisite quality made for a nobleman from the Baltic states, under imperial Russian and Prussian influence and this chair displays very high quality materials and design influences from abroad.

Description
A pair of solid mahogany Georgian Sheraton style antique armchairs in the 18th century manner but of 19th century English origin. Superb quality carving to the traditional ribbon and swag back with floral pierced back splat. The shield shaped back in solid mahogany with crossbanding of satinwood and ebony stringing , matching the marquetry inlays to the elegant shaped armrest supports and sabre front legs. Good Regency stripe upholstered seat with springs for extra comfort and are the correct height for modern man at 49 cm from ground. A matching settee is also offered in the settee section under the furniture heading.

A very good set of six antique cast iron chairs. These were designed by the famous Biedermeier period architect, Karl F. Schinkel who designed monumental buidlings in Berlin, that still stand today. These armchairs are adorned with antheniums, rams heads and raised on roman hooven feet. The seats and back are constructed of close spaced steel rods and each armchair has a beautifully fitted full leather regency green cushion if required. The matt black enamel finish prevents any rust and there is no sign of any. These superb armchairs will not blow over in the wind.

Description
A rare English metamorthic gentleman's lounging armchair with integrated footstool . Well upholstered in leather and with brass fittings and on a sturdy polished English oak frame. The brass levers allows the chair to recline fully, for the armrests to pivot hinge open for access and a fully adjustable footrest below. All on brass castors. This wing back armchair is the fore runner of reknowned modern companies such as Stressless and IMG Norwegian models that are now so popular. Christies sold one of these in 2013 for a mere 6000 GBP ! Perfect accessory for a gentleman's interior! More images available. Recently sympathetically restored with real leather upholstery probably less than 10 years ago. Brass plaque to base indicats the maker is: " Foot's of Great Portland Road, London."

Pair of English Regency style classic Ancient Greek Klismos chairs in painted faux rosewood finish. Superbly copied true to the originals with out swept sabre front and rear legs ans a superbly shaped ergonomic tub shaped backrest that supports the upper lumber region. These types of English Georgian chairs are extremely rare to find and these may have been made to match an original pair. This pair have brushed suede leather seats and are made of mahogany in the traditional manner and are all hand painted.

The newly restored gorgeous silk striped upholstery with subtle olive satin stripes. Upholstered right round so this gorgeous suite can stand with pride in the centre of a room and be viewed from all angles. All seats are fully reupholstered with hand stitched edges in the traditional manner but with coil springs for extra comfort .

The curvaceous gondola shaped back rails with bas relief carved details with curved armrests terminating in stylised dolphins heads. Vintage fabric upholstered seat and back in Regency watered silk stripe material. Only minor sun fading but in very good condition.

All date from 1720-1750 and are in blonde woods with minor carved details. They are in pairs and have just been beautifully reupholstered in a charcoal cotton fabric with modern seat heights of 50cm. These dining chairs are original 18th century chairs with traditional pegged construction and warm waxed patina finish.
