Description Secretaire 4779 Superb quality French Louis XVI bureau desk known as an Escritoire or Secretaire desk with fine marquetry inlay bronze mounts and marble top. Original interior Paris 1880. The top with shaped lift off marble slab. A full width drawer below with brass escutcheon. Key supplied to working locks. The fall front desk top opens with a brass key and reveals a fitted interior with original gilt tooled writing surface. The writing desk fall front is self supported under the cabinet interior with three drawers.
Three further drawers below the desk all the same depth. Raised on tapering inlaid legs with brass sabot feet. All drawers open very smoothly as all drawer runners have been adusted and waxed. A good shallow depth of only 39cm makes this desk very versatile for apartment living where space is at a premium. This timeless classic style suits many interiors: MCM modern, Art Deco and Empire. Marble top has an invisible professional repair.

This antique desk is quite rare in that it still retains all original features and is polished right round so it can stand in the middle of the room. The desk is also made in marine pine grown in southern France and northern Spain. The timber is very hard and heavy and has natural resin strength that resists water and the other elements. It is the timber of choice for ship building in northern Spanish, Portugal and southern France. This desk is most likely made in England from timber that the Captain acquired in Spain or Portugal. Showing superb craftsmanship and carving this gorgeous bureau plat flat top tesk with solid mahogany top and carved border. Directly below and hidden within the frieze are two practical pull out extension slides in solid oak. Five ornate framed flame mahogany drawers fitted with working brass locks and2 keys with Regency handles. Raised on traditional 18th century cabriole legs with delicate acanthus scroll knees and terminating in claw and ball feet. Polished right round in flame mahogany vertical veneers so it can stand with pride in the centre of a room or office. Original well cared for patina surface.... more images available.

A good French Empire 19th century blonde mahogany writing desk. The top with gilt tooled black leather insert in very good condition. The desk is fitted with four drawers and is double sided one side mirroring the other. The central drawer with gilt bronze escutcheons lock and gilt bronze ormolu key to working lock is flanked by a pair of drawers to the left and a double fronted drawer to the right. Raised on tapered legs with bronze sabot feet and castors. Good original french polished finish all round so it can stand in the centre of a room. Two further extension slides, one at each end enhance the work area. All drawers open very smoothly and are ready to work for you.

The desk top with original leather inlaid top with tooled edge that has the rich patina of a well loved library, a value point . Surrounded by crossbanding and acanthus carved border. A central drawer with serpentine flame mahogany panel front with original brass handles is flanked by two pairs of drawers each side. The carved Chippendale slope top desk with gold leaf mouldingd opens with a steel key and is supported by rare automoated pull out rails on either side of a shallow drawer. These are pulled forward automatically by ingenious iron hingees and rails when the writing surface is opened and pulled down. The interior with 10 drawers and compartments all in perfect working condition. Ther is also a hidden secret compartment .
Four drawers below the desk are also ebonised and fitted with gilt bronze ormolu handles. All drawers open very smoothly as all runners have been adjusted and well serviced. The whole raised on Georgian bracket feet. All pegged construction original 18th century .

A gorgeous antique 18th century Cylindre top desk in the sheraton manner. This beautifully made piece of georgian made furniture has two lower drawers above a pull out writing surface that opens the cylindre top, revealing a fitted interior with five drawers. The superb inlay with fruitwood and boxwoods and the butterfly crest centre is carried forward in the lower drawer escutcheons. All locks work and are with keys. The lower taper legs were originally demountable so that they would fit into the drawers when the desk was used abord a sailing ship. Note the anchor emblems to the handles. Red leather tooled writing surface interior. Well polished finish and all marquetry drawers with brass handles.

There is even a cubby hole for your laptop or tablet in the central open compartment. This internal compartment measures for depth 40 cm width 39.5 cm and height 7.5 cm. Flanked by well turned and carved columns and with nicely detailed top edge. In very good condition this rare blonde oak desk with original locks and a working key and a letter slot. The cylinder top rolls back into the cabinet and reveals a fitted interior. The writing surface slides out with three leather top panels. The centre one can lift up to an adjustable desk top. The cylinder desk top lifts off the two pedestals below. These are in turn raised on ceramic castors. The desk is finished right round so can stand in the centre of a room .

The desk top with tooled gilt edge green leather top with a lovely well cared for patina. A central drawer with brass original steel key and push pull opening mechanism that also centrally locks all the drawers when closed. This drawer is flanked by three graduated size drawers per side. All drawers open smoothly and are in full mahogany with hand cut dovetail joints. Below the centre drawer and set back to the kneehole space is a double door cabinet that opens with a key to reveal shaped divisions inside. The pedestals are raised ornate carved legs with anthenium scrolls and have solid brass castors underneath to allow for easy moving. Wonderful original french polished patina in very good condition. The cylinder top rolls back and the desk top pulls out smoothly with a desk height of 79cm and with clearance below of 70cm. The interior is fitted with several secret drawers and various pull out compartments and slides. An ebonised adjustable central writing surface to centre is flanked by two sliding storage compartments. The angle of the black section is adjustable with a ratchet support below.
Beautifully veneered in book matched pyramidis ashwood with ornate grain and retaining original French polished finish. Three bookcase compartments with curved doors flanked by ebonised columns above the desk and with central drawer all crowned by scroll arch top. Book matched flame mahogany panels framed in mahogany with curved mouldings. The very top drawer pulls open in the traditional minimalist Biedermeier manner with a key. A brass locking mechanism and hinges allows the drawer front to fall flat to reveal a fitted interior. Below this drawer is a serpentine or scoll shaped desk top. It rolls back within the cabinet revealing a fitted interior with drawers and central door. A pull out desk Gorgeous writing surface with gilt tooled black leather surface pulls out to make the desk very ample and comfortable giving a desk top area of 98cm width, 57cm depth and 77cm height and luxurious clearance below of 73cm.
Below the pull out desk top is a full width curved front drawer sitting over a recessed two door ccabinet.

Description Bureau 0685 A well proportioned late provincial oak baroque 1730's secretaire desk in well figured oak with exquisite fitted interior. The shaped serpentine front drawers below the drop front writing surface with brass Chippendale handles and escutcheons. Two arch top carved panel doors with intricate moldings above the desk section with canted corners and carved oak pediment top. The writing surface is 85 cm off the ground with generous legroom clearance of 82cm below top.. allowing for armchair space! When opened the writing surface measures W 110cm. There is a central recess for handy lap top storage and in tradition there is a sliding compartment inside the writing surface...but this desk has a secret! The shallow height drawer below the desk top surface is actually not a drawer. It hides a secret compartment above the three large serpentine lower drawers. All drawers open smoothly and have been well serviced. Three original keys for the locks included. Fabulous original patina finish makes this a very rare piece.

Superb quality patina and very desirable rare blonde oak finish. Raised on tapering legs traditional to 18th century French Louis XVI furniture. The ornate architectural interior details include column arches and pediments with brass medallion.

Quality such as this is very hard to find and is usually made by noted cabient makers such as David Roentgen (1743-1807), a famous German 18th century cabinetmaker who also supplied the Russian Imperial family. He had shops in both Berlin and in St Petersburg .
